Initial Design Decisions Influence the Long-Term Performance of Your Asset
Whether in wind or solar project development, the initial process remains the same. During the pre-construction phase, key factors such as project objectives, environmental conditions, permitting requirements, and location shape the overall design framework. As a result, permit requirements and planning conditions are based on the developer’s assumptions and design choices. The EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) team must then assess the practicality of these designs to build a more efficient project.
In theory, a developer’s design should consider both construction requirements and the operational lifespan of the project. In practice, however, this is not always the case. The primary objective of a developer is often to deliver a project that maximizes profit margins and facilitates a quick asset sale. This approach, while financially driven, can be problematic as it focuses only on the short-term aspects of the project, potentially leading to efficiency and performance challenges in the long run.
