It has been announced that new legal sustainability requirements for PV modules, inverters and systems may be introduced to the EU.
This is after the European Commission undertook a 2-year study and found that changes and developments to the requirements may be necessary.
Their recommendations have been published, and the documents can be viewed here.
Their main recommendations are for:

  • Ecodesign for modules and inverters
  • Energy Label for residential systems
  • EU Ecolabel for residential systems
  • EU Green Public Procurement criteria for PV systems
  • Mandatory instruments plus Green Public Procurement
  • Voluntary instruments plus Ecodesign

However, before any requirements are enforced, they are allowing experts to comment on their proposed recommendations to ensure their adaptations are beneficial.
